Brett's Soccer Teams

The Red Arrow Soccer Club team that Brett played on the last two years and that I coached, unfortunately broke up after the spring season. We all were very disappointed that it happened, but it opened up an opportunity for Brett to get on a new team with a new coach.

U11 TKO White

Brett make the TKO soccer club U11 White team along with two of his best friends from the Red Arrow team. The team has some strong players on it and the boys and parents of the team were excited for the new players to be on the team.

The team played up in the U12 age group of the West Michigan Youth Soccer Association league and remarkably finished the year 5-0-3; good for second place in their division. Brett was a starter on the team the whole year and finished with a couple of goals in league games; quite a change from the last couple of years where he typically led the team in scoring. We are still getting used to the different style of team play from the Red Arrow teams and Brett is getting used to playing with different people around him. His strength always has been, and still is, seeing the field and threading passes to set up teammates for goals.

The team played in two tournaments including a tournament at the beginning of the year in Dayton, Ohio which is a nationally ranked tournament. The boys did not make the playoff, but showed flashes of how good they could be when they played together as a team. The second tournament was the Lansing Area Capital Classic, where they earned their way to the championship game. Unfortunately, they could not hold a lead or put the ball in the goal enough and lost 4-2. Brett was able to score a few more goals in the tournament games than what he scored in league games.

U11 TKO Blue

Brett also played on the U11 TKO Blue team which is the club's second team in the U11 age group. This team played in the U11 age division in WMYSA as it is more of a developmental team. Playing on this second team allowed Brett to get more practice time and more touches on the ball during games.

Because it is more of a developmental team, the team lost more games than they won in league play. However, the team was playing much better soccer at the end of the season from the beginning; it was very encouraging to see their development. This team passes the ball around well for a newly formed team.

Brett also got to go to Traverse City to play in a tournament with this team. They finished 2-1 as they lost the third game by a score of 2-0. Had they won, they would have gone onto the championship game.

Brett is enjoying playing with his new TKO teams and Patti and I are getting used to the differences between the clubs and me not coaching.
